Merry Christmas from all of us at the 108 Heritage Site
Wow we are almost to the end of another year. It has been quite the whirlwind.
2024 started out with our furnace packing it in; in March thank goodness it made it until then. We purchased a new POS system for the gift shop and donated our old one to another not for profit group. We got our summer student grant which allowed us to hire 3 students which was so appreciated; we got a lot of jobs accomplished. The students worked in the Museum gift shop, gave tours, cleaned all the stalls in the Watson barn, emptied out the other side of the bunkhouse, and helped move a lot of stuff to the ice house. Which we still need to organize in 2025. We also were able to put in a vegetable garden and a clothes line. Hanging the old era clothes seems to put a smile on people’s faces.
We opened on the May long weekend with our yard sale and market. We continue the market every Saturday until the last Saturday of September.
The Ghost tours were well attended again this year generating close to $7000.00 to the heritage site. Thanks to the entire 108 Ghost Tour team including the guides and volunteers for making this happen once again.
In June we hosted the BC Trappers convention which was well attended, they will be with us again in 2025. The BC Trappers have adopted the trapper’s cabin and will be putting on a new roof in 2025.
Canada day was a huge success once again this past year, with lots of activities for both Kids and adults which included a market. There were over 3000 people in attendance for this event. Our attractions and activities included classic cars, Uncle Chris the Clown, the 108 Fire Department, RCMP, and the bouncy castle for the kids.
We ended the season with our fall fair and market; Donna’s burger wagon did a pancake breakfast and the lunch was hamburgers and hot dogs. Carol’s Canteen and Ivy’s Enchilada’s were also very busy. There was lots for the whole family to do (and eat), including a dog agility demo.
From May long weekend until September 28, the 108 Heritage Site had over 10,000 visitors, learning the history of the Cariboo gold rush era. On that note we just would like to take a moment and thank all of you for your volunteer time, donations and support through the year.
Have a very Merry Christmas be kind and be safe and we will see you in 2025.
